Non-ferrous metal bushings, also referred to as non-ferrous metal bearings, are cylinder pieces used to support and lessen friction between two moving parts. Non-ferrous metal bushes are, as their name implies, constructed of metals or alloys without iron.
1. Bronze: Tin is frequently mixed with copper to create the alloy known as bronze. Due to its superior wear resistance, low friction, and high load-bearing capacity, it is frequently used in bushings. Popular bronze alloys used in bushings include phosphor bronze and aluminium bronze.
2. Brass: Copper and zinc make up the majority of the alloy that is brass. It has a moderate strength, low friction, and strong corrosion resistance. Electrical connectors and other applications that call for good electrical conductivity frequently employ brass bushes.
3. Pure copper: On occasion, bushings made of pure copper are employed, particularly in applications needing high heat conductivity or electrical conductivity. Copper, however, is less resistant to wear than bronze or brass.
4. Aluminium: Certain non-ferrous metal bushes can also be made of aluminium and aluminium alloys. Aluminium bushes offer reduced friction, strong corrosion resistance, and are lightweight. They might not, however, be as resistant to wear as bronze or brass.
Numerous industries, including automotive, industrial machinery, aerospace, marine, and more, use non-ferrous metal bushes. They are frequently used in components that need smooth and reliable movement, such as rotating shafts, hinges, and pivots.
According to variables such load capacity, working circumstances (temperature, humidity, etc.), required friction properties, and compatibility with lubricants, a particular non-ferrous metal is chosen for a bushing.
